Our Extra Strength strength Outdoor Formulas come in spray and lotion, and are based on Catnip, and patented Swiss ingredients. New for 2006 are the addition of pomegranate, noni, and rhodiola extracts. New in 2009 was sourcing PFE (Pomegranate Fruit Extract) standardized to 40% ellagic acid content - previous to this our PFE was standardized to 10%. This has allowed us to significantly increase the potential benefits afforded this formula by the presence of ellagic acid.**

The XS Fomulas have a more musty-minty smell than the HOMS formula due to the presence of mint, and the Catnip which some say smells like fresh-cut wet hay. Some people prefer the more "tropical" smell of the HOMS formula (especially children) that is imparted by the geranium and vanillin, while others appreciate the more mature understated smell of this formula. The high mint content makes it feel cool to the skin when applied. A hi-tech blend of ingredients and packaging that is expensive to produce, it is suitable for rugged or prolonged performance Outdoor activities. It comes in an equally rugged 120 ml aluminum bullet bottle with a mister top that produces approx 900 fine mist sprays for approx 30 full body applications and works when upside down to facilitate spraying legs and feet. Because this formula is based on bioprocessed oils it's effectiveness is due to penetrating the skin and interacting with the skin lipids to create a gas "aura". The process is covered by a number of patents on file from the same Swiss chemist who provides one of the formulas HOMS uses in the United States for distribution there. Emu oil creates an ideal symbyosis with this process by helping transport the fatty acids from the bioprocessed oils through the skin. In addition to its superior moisturizing properties, Emu oil is non-comodegenic so it does not clog pores, but also helps with sweatproofing and waterproofing - its penetrating properties lead to it to being non-ephermeral on the skin. Like Emu, Catnip has received favourable reviews. In the USA, research findings were released on it by the Iowa State University, and it is gaining increased attention from both scientific research and consumer health groups.

The fomula is safe for use on children, but should not be placed on their hands or face as it is very unpleasant to get it in your eyes or mouth. It is best to patch test it on skin prior to use and purchase in a store so you can smell it from a sample bottle prior to purchase*. ** The antiproliferative and antioxidant properties of ellagic acid have spurred preliminary research into the potential health benefits of ellagic acid use. However much more research will be needed before absolute definitive results can be cited. In the meantime, we have adopted the approach that subjective evidence indicates that using it in this product has the potential to be of great benefit.

*Note, the bottle air cavity is filled with inert gas before the top is screwed on to help preserve product freshness by preventing oxidization. Therefore it is best not to unscrew the top and thereby let air current purge the gas, and it is best when stored long term in the upright position so that the gas always "blankets" the surface of the liquid and occludes the air that has entered the bottle cavity when the spray is ejected from the mister top.
