Deetfree.ca was launched in 2003 to provide a new Canadian identity for body oil formulations made in the USA under license from Swiss patent holders. When we began operations, our primary focus was to introduce the products acclaimed by the New England Journal of Medicine, to both the medical community as well as direct to the consumer. That product is now found on the site as a member of the Summer Survivor line of formulations for summer season oriented outdoor living. Summer Survivor is the only product sold in Canada that is based upon the patented bioprocessed soybean and coconut oil formulations that have been featured on both CBC and CTV news, and the only product worldwide that further combines Catnip and PFE (Pomegranate Fruit Extract) into the formulations (with our "XS" formula). In 2006 Pomegranate Fruit Extract (PFE), Noni, and Rhoiola were added to the Summer Survivor XS Formulas. PFE, from the tree Punica granatum, contains several polyphenols and anthocyanidins (pigment that gives certain fruits their dark red colors), the antioxidant activity of which is higher than that of red wine and green tea.The Standardized Pomegranate extract used in Summer Survivor contains 40% ellagic acid, which is rich in polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant and provides powerful antioxidant protection against free radical damage, which accounts for more than 80% of the signs of premature aging and can lead to skin cancer. Summer Survivor-XS used to contain Emu Oil to help protect your skin. In 2006, in addition to PFE, Noni and Rhodiola were added to the formula as a result of emerging research that has been published on these compounds. Now mocha in color due to the addition of these ingredients, it goes another step into the future of skin defence formulations by reacting to the latest scientific findings in a timely manner.
In the spring of 2003, as a result of a story in the Canmore Outlook about findings published in the New England Journal of Medicine, CBC Newsworld sent out a Calgary based camera crew (led by reporter Cathy Gibson) to interview us about our product, and it was featured on CBC Newsworld. Since that time, we have grown and introduced complimentary products – while maintaining our focus on high quality products that are well tested with research and approvals to back up their claims. Our intention is to continue to add new products, as we find them, that fit our criteria.

For example, on the topic of outdoor spray formulations, of which we have two formulas: click on Geranium formula and you get the page about that product, or click on Catnip XS to see what the Extra Strength formula is all about. On the right of that very same page you can add the product to the shopping cart. Pls use the stores tab at the top of the page or menu on the left. Note: Until 2004 we supplied Summer Survivor to a Health Food store distributor under their own private lable, known as "Outdoor Mist". They were bought out by Nature's Way who now only distribute Natures Way products, so they handed the store accounts back over to us. We have gotten reports that some stores, when contacted, say they never heard of Summer Survivor. Although it is no longer in production, you should then ask for "Outdoor Mist" which they may still have. It is the same thing as our regular strength Geranium based formula.

In 2009: Not much for change other than a new 600ml trigger spray bottle of Summer Survivor-XS. Also in that formula, we are now sourcing Pomegranate Fruit Extract that contains 40% standardized ellagic acid content as opposed to the 10% that was previously available to us. This will increase the potency of the skin protection factor of this formula significantly.
In 2008: The only ingredients change will be to adding L-Arginine to achieve a better emulsion, and dropping Emu Oil due to client concerns over using animal based ingredients. We will move to the new INCI labelling requirements that will be in force, so you will see ingredients listed in Latin. The following ingredients are NOT used:-Parabens, Sulfates, DEA, MEA, TEA, Propylene Glycol, Petroleum Jelly, Petrolatum, Paraffin, Mineral Oil, Phthalates, Synthetic Colors, Artificial Fragrances. We have obtained a variety of unique skin and health care products, for Personal, Home, and Pet Care. The benefits of Catnip Oil and its main ingredient Nepetalactone are receiving increasing attention by scientific and research communities since research from Iowa State University and the Discovery Channel have focused attention on them. The combination of these products is unique to the marketplace, and the results are dramatic. Because we deal with directly with the world's largest farms for both these commodities, Mountain Parameters is the only true distributor of Catnip Oil in Canada, and a major distributor of Catnip Oil internationally.
*June 2005. Deep in the central jungle of Borneo Duke University runs a research project aimed at preservation of the endangered Orangutan. We recently received a call from a mother of one of the researchers. She explained that her daughter had met some travelling europeans who had lent her some Summer Survivor XS. Subsequent to trying it in the Jungle, she requested that her mother obtain 6 more bottles and send them to Indonesia for her. We look forward to her further evaluation of the product.
